Notes
Importers notes. Cruzille is a beautiful village north of Viré-Clessé, and a fiefdom of the various members of the Guillot clan. This cuvée is drawn from a small parcel of fruit farmed by Emmanuel Guillot (Domaine Guillot-Broux), in one of the oldest organic vineyards in Burgundy. The vines are now between 50-80 years old (and some much older). The oldest vines sit on pure white limestone, while the younger plot lies on the on mid-slope, facing east on deeper clay. Emmanuel's cousin, Julian Guillot of Vignes du Manyes, once explained to me that Cruzilles has a reputation as an Earth Chakra, or high-energy centre, and attracts spiritualist types form all over France and beyond. Jean-Guillaume Bret also noted that the place and the vines possess an unusual energy. This vineyard's low yields in 2017 ensured there was only one (used) barrel made from this year. This has resulted in a wine that combines the mineral drive of the vintage with a layered, silky texture and tremendous clarity of pithy, citrus fruit. A flat-out winner.
