Notes
Well, look at this cheeky little number being all complex at such a young age. I had to double check the vintage and on doing a little reading about the wine, I was struck by the strength and the confidence of Messers Hughes & Hughes as winemakers. The fruit is sourced from White Rock Vineyard in the north-west and undergoes a deftly administered balance of hands-off winemaking and human intervention. Whole bunches pressed straight into French oak barrels, 25% new, wild ferment, partial malolactic fermentation and 10 months ageing on lees before release all offer a depth and complexity that is unexpected in such a young wine. The joy of that balance between man and nature is that the fruit is allowed to sing and really shine through. Smoky and nutty with ripe white peaches, baked lemons, golden delicious apples, honeysuckle and crisp acidity. The texture of this also brings a richness and weight to the wine, the lees offering a gentle undertone of buttery, flaky pastry and a well-rounded finish.Very moreish and I will be intrigued to see how this wine develops over the years in its unfined and unfiltered state. 93 Points, Curly Haslam-Coates - The Wine Front.
