Notes
Behind the scenes GW could see that I was onto this wine, so he sent through his impressions. We were more or less of the same view, he was just more erudite and descriptive. He used the word silty, for example, in reference to the tannin, which is a word I almost never use but which is incredibly apt here. The tannin here is pure silt, or feels like silt, exactly. It’s a fine distinction between silt and silk but it’s an important one. Fresh berry and floral flavours are to the fore here but it’s more than that, and different to that. It feels a bit wild, a bit loose, a bit natural, with orange peel and nuts, a general volatility, some dark chocolate characters, some sweet kirsch. It’s soft but it has that riverbed of silt as its base; there’s a murky wet-clay feel running beneath the super-fresh, hair-flung-free flow of fruit. There’s a combination for you. This isn’t a wine for technocrats but then, wines like this are like a walk in a forest; we’re In The Environment here. It has that real feel. I’m giving this a good score, if not a great one, with the proviso that I would drink this any day of the week, in a heartbeat. Rated : 91 Points - Campbell Mattinson, TWF
